In 2023, there are two Magisterial District Judge (MDJ) races taking place within Lancaster City and one race taking place in a district that encompasses Lancaster Township and overlaps with a portion of Lancaster City. MDJ candidates in these three districts may pursue the endorsement of the Lancaster City Democratic Committee.
MDJ Districts:
District 02-2-01: Lanc City: Wards 3 & 7: Currently occupied by Jodie Richardson [RUNNING FOR REELECTION]
District 02-2-02: Lanc City: Wards 1, 4, 5 & precincts 9-1, 9-2 and 9-3: Currently occupied by Bruce Roth [NOT RUNNING]
District 02-2-03: Lanc Twp + Lanc City precincts 9-4 & 9-5: Current occupied by Mary Sponaugle [RUNNING FOR REELECTION]

Term: MDJs are elected to six-year terms and are employees of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Salary: $98,565
Qualifications:
21 years of age
Resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Resident of his/her magisterial district for a one-year period prior to election
Certified by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts as successfully completing a rigorous training and education program administered by the Minor Judiciary Education Board OR attorney admitted to the Bar in Pennsylvania
Once elected, District Judges must complete an initial practicum course. Thereafter, District Judges are required to successfully complete 32 hours of continuing education annually
